Conçu spécifiquement pour la gamme sans miroir de la série R au format APS-C de Canon, il offre une plage de zoom équivalente grand angle à téléobjectif court de 29 à 72 mm. De plus, sa conception rétractable le rend idéal pour le transport quotidien où vous souhaitez ranger l'appareil photo dans un sac.

Canon a pris soin de la conception optique, en utilisant deux éléments asphériques et le revêtement Super Spectra pour minimiser les aberrations et réduire les images fantômes et les reflets. Un stabilisateur d'image optique aidera à garantir des images nettes, offrant jusqu'à 4 arrêts de correction de bougé ou jusqu'à 6 arrêts de SI coordonné avec un boîtier d'appareil photo compatible.
