Basé autour d'un ampli op X731 dérivé du Melcor 1731, le pré offre un son qui peut être chaud ou propre, saturé ou transparent, selon la force avec laquelle vous le conduisez. Conduisez-le doucement ou fort, cela ne changera pas la qualité sonore essentielle de l'unité.
Il est également personnalisable pour les bricoleurs : comme l'unité a été conçue autour de l'amplificateur opérationnel X731, le préamplificateur peut accepter n'importe quel amplificateur opérationnel discret sur le marché conforme à la norme de brochage 16 V, 2520. En plus des amplis op, le WA12 MkII utilise des transformateurs CineMag USA, ainsi que d'autres composants qui lui permettent de rivaliser avec des unités beaucoup plus coûteuses.
Ce préampli offre des connexions XLR et 1/4" pour les instruments de niveau micro, de niveau ligne ou Hi-Z. Vous aurez également le choix entre des sorties XLR ou TRS 1/4".
